Summer Holiday Club – The History Detectives

IMG_5672Keep the kids busy this summer with our fun holiday club – The History Detectives at St John’s Museum, Warwick

Explore our collections, get crafty and play games at our special day-long workshops. (9.30am-4.00pm)

 

Cost: £20.00 a day. Suitable for ages 6 to 12 years. Bring packed lunch/snacks/drinks. Activities start and finish at St John’s Museum but we may visit other sites. Places must be booked in advance by calling 01926 412132 or online

Maps - Tuesday 4th August

The maps in our collections tell you much more than how to get from one place to another. Why did people start making maps? What can they tell us? Explore some of the maps in our collections, including the Record Office’s oldest map and the Sheldon tapestry map at the Market Hall Museum. Come on our Warwick Town Treasure Hunt to find secret treasure.

Ceremonies - Wednesday 5th August

How did people in the past mark different ceremonies, such as burials, weddings and special occasions? Discover everything from how the Egyptians buried their dead to how people organised a wartime wedding.

Childhood - Thursday 6th August

What was it like to be a child in the past? What did they wear? What did they play with? What was school like, and what about the jobs they did? Explore our collections to find out more.

The Story of Priory Park – Tuesday 11th August

Priory Park in Warwick has been a part of Warwickshire’s Jurassic coast, a working quarry, the site of an old monastery, a beautiful house with landscaped gardens and is now the site of the County Record Office. Come and explore the park and look for evidence of its past. Find out about all its different inhabitants, both human and non-human, and handle collections linked to the park held at the museum and archives.

Explorers - Wednesday 12th August

How did exploration change the way we viewed the world? What differences did it make to our lives back home? From new ways to cook to brand new creatures, explore our collections and find out what discoveries people brought home. Take part in related activities to take home.

Folklore and Legends – Thursday 13th August

Why did people hide shoes in the chimney? Why do we have a recipe including a dead mole in our archives? Why did people grind up fossils and drink the powder? Find out about folklore, myths and legends from Warwickshire and around the world. Take part in some folklore-related activities to take home.
